Thats the circuit complete anyway, picks up a coin from roughly 9? with my 300uh test coil.
Next is to build the rest of the detector and put it to work, probably go with conduit for the detector body, need to make myself a new coil and housing now.
Is there much difference between a 300 and 500uh coil?
it seems on my bench test there?s no difference at all but it is in a noisy environment

Right on with the build, I?ll post back with updates as things progress.

Build is coming along now, had the remaining parts turn up today so was able to get cracking.
for now I’ll just use the mono coil from my surf pi but eventually put a dual coil in there.
This is state of play now

tomorrow I’ll turn the panel with the dials the other way to move them away from the handle, then it’s just a case of wiring everything up and performing some last minute touches, hoping to have it put together and tested by tomorrow afternoon and then go out tomorrow evening and find some treasure :-)

Looks quite good, I see you have issue with bending the PVC without kinking. I tried many methods to come up with sure way to make smooth PVC bends, very hard to find a good and reliable way of doing so. I finally resorted to 45 degree couplings.

Your right it’s not as easy as it looks, for my first attempt I used a heat gun with a wide nozzle and it came out pretty good. This time round I used the heat gun from my solder station with a small nozzle thinking it would be more precise but it came out worse.
have you tried filling the tube with sand first? That will be my next method to try

need to build a better coil now, this one works but doesn't have the greatest depth, going to take her out to the fields tonight for a test drive

lots of scrap metal but it is metal nonetheless, it kept up with the Tesoro pretty good, not bad for a 300mh monocoil. Worked faultlessly all night, I ran it with just a little bit of gain and the reject pot all the way at the bottom, threshold turned up till it started chirping then backed off till quiet.

now to try and improve it

Well done for completing the project Denots, I still have not started mine yet.

6666 That is what you find in the average field in the UK if you us a pi machine, that is why I only use pi's on the beach.

Lol no farm fields, it does look like I’ve been picking up bits from a railway line though lol, to be fair the Tesoro has been finding exactly the same.

good luck with your build. Your right though our fields are full of junk, there are the odd treasures scattered here or there though, I’ve found one coin so far, friend of mine has found a few coins and other bits and pieces but he’s been out a lot more than me.
Ive got a geotech baracuda to finish building then I’ll be looking to build something a bit more suitable, got a tgsl board I might build next unless something better comes along in the meantime
