  • Tesoro Siver Sabre Plus Improvements

    Hi guys/gals,

I wondered if anybody may know of any simple modifications that can improve the Silver Sabre plus. About 17 years back, I junked the polo head as it went faulty and was recommended a Shadow 9" web coil as it was a straight swap. It has worked well, but recently on a field with heavy mineralisation, the sabre gave constant chatting with lots of false signals. A friend found several Hammereds with an XP Goldmaxx, whilst I found nothing in two hours, as it was almost impossible to detect a good from bad signal. When I air tested a hammered on the coil, I was shocked to find that it could not hear it beyond 3 - 4". I would have expected far better than this. Any advice would be appreciated. I am very new to electronics, so may require any answers to be in laymans terms.

    Many thanks, Adrian.

I believe the Shadow coil's receiver inductance is different from the original Silver Saber's if so
you would need to tune the receiver's cap a bit for more sensitivity. Do you have the spec's for the new coil?

Oops ignore the above, I found a site that said it is compatible with the older Tesoro's. I wonder if the shield
wiring is correct? Also even though it is compatible some tuning of the TX or RX cap could be beneficial
