  • Tgsl two tone and VDI

    Hello,

i have two silverdogs Tgsl with components here. I have also one Two tone pcb with components and ordered a Geotech Vdi module now.
Is it possible to connect the vdi module to the modded tgsl with the silverdogs two tone mod pcb connected.
Works the vdi only without the two tone mod???

.....can anyone give me an link or description how to connect the vdi module to the tgsl? Is a further Pcb and components needed to make the Vdi working on Tgsl?

    Regards

    Prospekteur

      Hello,

The VDI is a nice addition to our TGSL units. Points X & Y of VDI are connected to pins 1 & 7 of lm358, shown on schematic as U103. Wish I could give you my version of a double sided pcb of the VDI, but my cad files have become corrupted. The disc. switch must be on when using the vdi and the vdi must be set to zero when the disc. pot is set to blank out light aluminium foil. The tgsl with vdi is great for hunting copper and silver coins. When the vdi gives you a value greater than eighty, you've got a good target.

As for the two tone switch, I always search in mono tone and only use two tones to identify iron targets. Beer bottle caps give a mixture of a high and low growling tone . In mineralised soil or wet salty sand, it gives a lot of false signals. Don't use the vdi with the two tone on, it is useless.

The schematic and hex code are all in the IDX-PRO + PRO thread. I think there is a pcb drawing in the thread.

      Cheers

Thanks for your information;-) Very good work!

I will build two different Tgsl. One with the Geotech Vdi and another with the Arduino ;-). I will post my results here in the forum.

          @Finderskeepers:

Where are the connecting points on the Tgsl-Board. On both LM308's (pin 6) right???

I have finished the Tgsl Board.....it works great. Now i will build the two tone mod. I have tested the Geotech Vdi module, but i have problems with it!

Pins 1 & 7 of lm358 on Tgsl Pcb dont work with geotech vdi module, i have a -135 signal for all metals and objects, the vdi number dont change at any object. Without swinging objects over the coil the Vdi produces erratic changing signals. Can someone help me with the connection points on Tgsl board????

will help you with Infos this evening, must watch my documents
i see you are from Germany

please look also on detektorforum.de in the Sub board werkstatt- eigenbaugeräte / Tuning

did you take the right lm358? i tremind it was the one which is in Center of pcb

Thank you Bernte_one! I will proof everything. But I think I have already tested these pins on the right lm358 with no succes. I will proof everything twice;-)

Hope i will get the Vdi working fine;-)

Ok, the Vdi works. Iron in - ,foil around 0 and good targets at +40 and above. But i think the Arduino-method will make the VDI-numbers more accurate. But im happy now with that first impression of an working Vdi module on Tgsl. Thanks again to finderskeepers and bernte_one for the help;-)

                          Hello again,

i connected VDI on following pins on lm358:

                          X to Pin 7 (U103a)
                          Y to Pin 1 (U103b)

                          .....as shown in the attachment.

I will show more pictures or Videos when the Project is succesfully finished;-)

I have posted a link to a video from my latest project....the Surf Pi:

I have an idea for the TGSL with two tone mod. Wouldnt it be great to have an "Iron Volume". The Xp Goldmaxx have this feature, and it is a great thing to change the Volume level on Iron signals. Have someone an idea to manage this thing in the easiest way ????

The device is fittet with neoprene....i saw this idea here in the forum...i dont remember who had this idea, i will thank this person a lot....it works great! I will also thanks daren, silver dollar, Bernte_one and all the people who helped me, ive learned a lot with this project!
