  • Bandido 2 Modified

Here is a single board Bandido 2 pcb design I'm working on. It's sized to fit an enclosure I've chosen. I have not built it yet. I have all the parts picked out. Just waiting on time and money...mostly money. In the meantime I'm double checking the layout.

I'm using Kicad, a totally free schematic capture and pcb layout program. If my layout works, I'll post all of the files needed to build it. I don't want anyone else to waste time and effort until I've proven the design myself. I've ordered about $200 worth of parts for this project. I could have bought a used Bandido II uMax off of eBay, but that's not really the point now is it. I have to know if I can build one myself. I'll be using the toner transfer method to make my board. I've had much success with this method as of late. Here is the enclosure I'm using:

Here is a slightly updated and higher resolution 2D image of the board. Let me know if anyone notices any mistakes.

I can't find where I originally downloaded my schematic from. It was on this site but I'm not sure of the thread. Here is my schematic exported from kicad. Components not mounted on the PCB are not shown so you won't see switches and pots, just the solder pads where the wires connect to the board.

Ooops! I see now that it's cut-off on the right. I'll try to fix and repost.

That's exactly where I got it. Thanks WM6. I'm still revising my board. I am having to move the 220uF caps away from the edge of the board to allow space for mounting potentiometers to the front panel. Also I have layed the regulator down for greater clearance. I'll try to get some screen shots up soon. I have most of the parts in. Still waiting on Jameco. I hope to build during Christmas holidays.

Here is the board after moving some components to allow room for control potentiometers mounted on the front of the case.

I finally received the rest of my Bandido 2 Mod parts including the coil connector. I think a lot of people have had a hard time finding the original Switchcraft connector in small quantities. I ordered 2 from www.heilind.com. The part number was SL175FX. I believe the price is around $6 each ordered by phone. If your order online, they have a $25 minimum so, if you buy 2, the price will be brought up to $12.50 each to meet the minimum. The original number used by Tesoro was SL175F. I believe the only difference is the newer part is ROHS compliant. It does not have mounting ears. Instead, the entire body is threaded. I am including a picture.
