  • LM308 suitable sub

    Qiaozhi:

    You seem to be the resident expert on the TGSL so I'm hoping you'll have the solution to the problem. I checked with Mouser and they don't list the LM308, is there a suitable subtitution for it or barring that do you know of a US source for them?

    Many thanks,

    Dennis in Oregon, USA

    You could try a TL071. It has the same pinout and similar spec.

        LM308N

        Both Futurlec.com and Jameco.com show this chip in stock. I have ordered from both companies without any problems. Furturleec is much cheaper for this chip.

                Did anyone tried OPO7 instead of TL071? TL071 noise = 15. OPO7 noise = 10. So I think, that OPO7 would be better.

                      This LM308 Chip seems to be a big problem for many, but sources are plentiful. This Chip is still highly appreciated and recommended for use in Guitar Effects Pedals. And guitar players are (on the average) not interested in wonderful specs, for it's sound they are after. And if a certain kind of distortion and even noise generated by a specific component is appreciated, then this component won't die out. It's as simple as that. Any Guitar shop should have a handful of these components in stock. And they may even sell them at high prices because of some kind of BULL story connected to a superior sound quality belonging to a named artist and musician using a specific Chip Manufacturers IC's in his or her foot pedal, but they will have them for you.

                      LM308 in Retro-Sonic Distortion Foot Pedals:

                      The Retro-Sonic Distortion pedal is based on an LM308 op-amp design, and features true bypass switching, with Distortion, Tone and Level controls. Together, these provide a wide range of tonal possibilities, from subtly distorted blues tones through to classic rock and metal. As added flexibility, Retro-Sonic has incorporated two internal trim pots to allow adjustment to the frequency response of the gain structure. This gives Distortion users the option to tailor the overall response of the pedal to taste, by reducing or increasing the mix of high or low end content. More tonal flexibility can be explored through multiple clipping options via a 3 position mini toggle switch, which selects symmetrical-diode, asymmetrical-diode, or LED clipping.

                            Hi Dennis,

                            Thank you very much for your kind and encouraging words. It's an honor to be a member of a forum with such nice and stimulating people like yourself

                            And about the "geek in training";

                            As far as I know, he is not my son. But to be honest, I would not stick my hand in a fire and swear to this one in denial. Many of my previous, and now married girlfriends, seem to have had children with a startling alikeness to me. But there husbands think differently about these matters, and I wisely tend to leave them with there own thoughts. Alimony you know, may take strange leaps in a for me wrong direction. I wish that I was a millionaire, then I could afford my own harem, but I now share it with others. And in my financial situation, I tend to find it a noble deed

                            Regards,

                            Robert
