  • SS-Q ..fellows..please look and ???

Please bear with what may be a lengthy statement and question.
I recently bought a Blue box Tesoro "Saber II". It says so right on the casing! Now I realise that the blue boxes were made for Monkey wards.
When I bought the machine I was expecting a re-tune/no motion AM mode just like the TSSII. BUT that is not what the Blue Saber II is. Instead it is a first run original design Silver Sabre.
I opened up the casing to look under the hood and what I found was a REV B Board labled Silver Sabre without the II designation.
Long story short......I have spent litterally days looking for a circuit drawing of the original Sabre. Even calling in old favors, to no avail.
I have now begun reverse engineering the board to create a drawing. I have nearly depleted all available brain cells.......You all know what I mean!
BUT..... heres the thing. I am only about 1/3 done after 2 days but the more I look at what I have it LOOKS IDENTICAL (almost) to this sites TGSL!!!! Did the creator of that project simply take the original SS and change a few minor component values??
If I knew the answer to that I could potentially save myself many more days of grief.!
I would -and have- do my own search for the answer but do you guys realise there are now 177 pages of crap on the Golden Sabre thread?!!!!???? And the thread on the TGSL is mostly about the bandido.
PLEASE for the love ofmike......just answer my Q if anyone knows.??? Or better yet if there is a shematic out there on the ORiginal SS let me have it please>??
Sign me: ...........nearly crazy and forced to sleep on the couch......

LETO, you have no i.d. how happy I was to see your post this morning! That is exactly the circuit from what I can see so far. Mine uses a LM2930 instead of the LM2931 which is alittle higher quality VReg. and a second 358 instead of the 1458 on your drawing. But its all the same! Thanks man!!!
G.O.D. those guys at Tesosro sure had alot of varients of that old workhorse. But I guess one would expect that from a series that dates back nearly 30 years! And it's still popular today!!
There are substantial differences in the various SS circuits that were produced and it makes me wonder which version has endeared itself the most to diehard Tesoro fans??
I've only had this Blue box (which I haven't used yet) and one of the early SSabres with the control box under the rod. Can't remember now if it was version I or II. BUT I do remember working out one of the "hottest" yards with the machine and a Tek Mark III. The tesoro was picking out silver dimes better than the Mark III. And I love Georges Mark series. But thats how it was in that particular gold mine. The old lady living in the house told of how her deceesed husband had been quite the drinker and stumbled home every night fumbling in his poskets for the door keys and generally passing out in the yard. Man that place was a glory hole. Literally Pockets FULL of old coins, even a V nickel.
Anyways ,,,anyone got a preferance for the very first SS or the SSII????
Also would like to thank KT315 for his photos. Yes that is the very same machine I bought. But I have included a picture of my board with this post.
What a bunch of great guys. Thanks!!

KT, just noticed the date codes on your IC's. Your board was made in about 1987 and mine in 1984. Notice my board has no threshold trim either. Phil

            Hello Friends,

It is some 20 year ago.... but if I remember it well ...the schema from the Silver Sabre has some errors in the ground/disc parts. So Phil check it, think there is a 220 pf on the pcb board and not in the schema ... I am nor 100% sure.....

            Regards.

Holy cows......what a memory! your absolutely correct! There is a 220pF bypass off pin2 (LM393 Disc comparator) to ground. Any other errors?? Phil
