I am soldering up the board tonight after looking at the pics of older green boards, people had to solder jumpers. On this black board it appears jumpers are already there along with plate-throughs.

Do I still need to solder jumpers on these newer boards?

Just done soldering the board last night.

I am now debating on using the IC sockets that came with the kit or get the more expensive Augat style sockets that some of the people are using.

Are there any benefits using the Augat sockets?

I used the cheaper type sockets in my first project and although worked ok still had that nagging feeling that something was amiss.
Fit best quality you can get your hands on, but ideally ics should be soldered directly onto pcb.
Only problem with that is of course if you got a duff ic you need to desolder it which is a pain the ***.
Im in middle of second TGSL assembly and thinking of using all ics from working first project and solder directly.

          Regards

            Alpha Pots with Switch

            A listing:
            http://www.alphapotentiometers.net/h..._pot___sw.html

a good cheap source of pots:
            http://www.taydaelectronics.com/pote...er/linear.html

Had a sight with all the Alpha pots with switches just having trouble locating the link somewhere within my 100 saved sites...LOL

Hi all! in my kit from silverdog instead of the bc547 i have been sent a c32725 is this a mistake? as the former is a npn and the 32725 tests as a pnp i probably have a small general purpose transistor sub for the bc547 kicking around so... just checking with the forum im not wrong? cheers andrew.....

The c32725 is a BC327 which is correct, you should also have however a bc547

                        volume control

If you want to fit a volume control use 1kohm wired one side of track from + speaker output other side to common - and wiper to speaker.
Using log type is better but lin type ok and does the job.

                        Regards

                          installing resistors

If you have trouble fitting resistors horizontal due to there size and dont like fitting vertical providing you got the room all you have to do is kink the leads so they go partly underneath each end of the resistor as shown, we done this for years in the TV trade.

                            hello
can i drive tgsl with a single 9v block batterie when i let out the 7808 an the two electrolytic caps nearby or are there any parts which need to be replaced too

can i damage the board components when i put 9volt direct

i have the feeling i could do it but... not sure

how does the machines from micromax line work? they have single 9v source

                            thanks for answer

I'm about to turn my IGSL into a 9V rig in a few days, so if you don't mind waiting on my impressions just sit back and relax. I don't foresee any problems. Besides, I'll put 10ohm instead of the 7808 (~0.5Vdrop) and 10000μF instead of the 220μF one (C3 in TGSL). And a switch to chose between the two batteries.

I ran my first TGSL for several months with just a single nine volt source. For my final version I switched to two nine volt batteries in series to give more head room for the 8 volt regulators. The most recent one uses 8 AA batteries. Works well but with a slight weight penalty.
