      Nice job !!

I am liking that Low tone

the low tone is achieved by connecting to pin 3 of 4024 and left D3, D4 and D5 as are in their original condition.

Very nice job of adding two-tone feature with small circuit change. It would be good to compare depth with standard TGSL with actual test.

          Regards,

Wouldn't be some more credits for Hugo nice in this design ?

              kind regards ,

When your finished testing could you do a pcb in .lay format ?
If you can keep the board under 5cm x 5cm I can get them very cheap
I would like to know your point of view about this future PCB.
                  1) I can draw a simple PCB connected to the TGSL with wires.
                  2) I can also draw a more complex PCB mounted in piggyback above U106 & U107. In this case, the two wires located under the main PCB are no longer needed. The connection will be made on the upper PCB.

What do you prefer ? The first, the second, or both ...

I suppose we all need to consider where we are and where we stop.

I am now out of TGSL-EDU boards so need to order some more.
We have the ability to not only add 2 tones but maybe even Holyusers VDI
As the VDI works on other designs I need to have boards for that anyway so would favour a modular approach.

Amend TGSL-EDU to include pads for VDI and 2-Tones connection ?
Even better would be some kind of plug in arrangement ?

                      @silverdog,

You're right, all of us need to think about the future of this project.
But for now, the fastest way to upgrade the existing boards is to use add-on PCB.
I've already got a layout ready for the Minelab mod.
The layout of the two tones mod can be available shortly.

The green areas simulate the two PCB.

Does anybody can post a video of the VDI working onto a TGSL ?

I like the building block, modular approach for several reasons.

                        1. It can really help the first time builder in understanding how the detector works and in troubleshooting one that does not work.
                        2. Modules can be used for more than one detector if it serves the desired function.

The VDI with display is a very good example of this. This project should be able to be used on many different detector circuiits.

I built up the Oscillator, 4024 and negative power supply onto a 1 1/2 X 2 inch board a couple of years ago. I have found it to be so useful I am going to give it a small enclosure. Here is your standard oscillator for testing coils when you wind them. Once you get the Capacitance figured out accurately just measure frequency and a simple calculator tells you the exact Inductance.

I have also brought out all of the divider outputs with diodes so I can quickly connect to any of them for testing purposes on the audio tones we have been talking about the last month or so.

I can think of at least four or five modules that would be very useful to have and could save a lot of time when brain storming an idea since you already having something built up and working for parts of it.

I have even thought about making up some smaller circuit boards for just this purpose.

                        Just my take on it.

                        Jerry

BTW, I think there are still more possibilities for the TGSL beyond the two tone ID and VDI. and IGSL

Yeah, the LCD still has some place to display informations why not use it ?

                            2 Tones PCB

                            Hello,
Here is the last version of my piggyback PCB for the TGSL.
I've done one last night but not populated yet.
It should be mounted upside down into existing DIL supports (U106 & U107).
I'll keep you inform about the results.

Excellent mod and execution. Thanks for sharing Hugo!
I wrote SB and mentioned I wanted to build a iron indicator for the TGS and he asked if I had been following your thread. I was pleasantly pleased to find that someone had already done all the work. Even worked out the bugs!
                              Thanks again Hugo.
Has someone here a free version to open and work with .RAR they could PM me?
                              I've only express and sprint.
