What we do without you your ace
When you have the time im seriously interested in your module designes that you mentioned previously with PCB layouts for doing experiments with TGSL to bump up performance a tad.
Once we have them shall make a proper test jig with plugs and sockets, it will make life alot easer than working on compleat circuit assemblys with wires coming off and printed circuit tracks breaking.
Andy at silverdogs is kindly sending me a few bits and peaces along with ITGSL boards to speed things up for me because making pcbs and drilling all the holes is time factor which at the moment im short of what with work etc
My original TGSL Pcb has seen better days now due to experiments, one of the reasons why im building a second machine.
    Many thanks again
    Warm regards
    Dave

Addendum : I forgot to mention that a link is needed under the main PCB in case of use of the standalone mod.
A link must be done between Pin 6 (or 2) U106 and Pin 2 U107. (Ref. sens. voltage).
In case of use of the piggyback PCB, the link is already done on it.

@satdaveuk : The piggyback PCB will be available soon into Silverdog's Web Shop. Ask him.

          TGSL 2 tones

Hugo, I'm curious how your 2 tone reacts to different metals such as aluminum foil, aluminum bottle cap, and brass. High tone or low tone?

            @Wiltran:
it depends how you set the discrimination point.
It works just like before in DISC mode.
All metals under the setting point will ring low, the others high.
Some metals may be "borderline" meaning they'll ring high and then low; double beep (i.e. ring of steel).

              2 tones wiring

I've found a mistake in my wiring explanations.
For the piggyback board, points A & B must be reversed on the switch.

Moreover, I want to repeat that the G point is located on the MAIN board, not on the addon board. A friend of mine makes the mistake and it really but really don't work well.

              Regards,
              Hugo

                2 tones boards

Finally got a few of these boards made following a mess up from the supplier (not my normal supplier) and even though I now have some they only sent half, although I do now have plenty of minelab coil add-on boards instead

They are in the shop so be quick if you want one, the replacements will not arrive until 2nd week of february due to the Chinese New Year festival

Two more photos about the mod.
The first one shows components to be removed.
And the second one, the wiring between the PCB, the piggyback board and the DPDT switch.

Note : The G point (don't laugh ! Unwanted joke !) is hidden on the main PCB (1N4148 Anode) under the piggyback board.

                  Have fun,

                  Hi Hugo,

My board is nicely soldered and would be a sin to start pulling parts off it.

I am about to order the 2 Tone board from Silverdog. I just had a quick read through of this whole thread and have two questions.

Is the board from Silverdog a piggy back onto the existing TGSL-EDU?

Do I need to remove all those (9?)components marked "X" and a jumper wire on the bottom?

                  Thanks

                  G

PS. If the future boards includes the 2 Tone and VDI it would be great. What would be nicer is a modular version where options are all piggyback.

                    @gsignal888 :

Three words : Yes, yes, no ...

Yes, you have to remove some components.
Yes, the PCB from Silverdog is a piggyback board for the TGSL-EDU kit.
No, with this add-on, you don't need to add a link on the bottom (only with the standalone version).

My son , what is your worst sin; Remove some parts or stay without 2 tones discrimination ?
God bless you and shows you the right way.

Good idea but hard to do.

                    Have a nice day,
                    Hugo

                      Thanks Hugo

Two tone is important to me. So the parts are coming off.

Just put in an order for the 2 tone board and parts. Just sent you a pm as well.

                          Silverdog,

The order finally went through for the 2 tone board and parts.

Here is a pic of my case. The first pot is a temporary until you send the 16mm splined 100K version (same as the 100K disc.level pot in the kit) and the orange knobs so everything will match. Just need to label all the controls next.

                          Thanks for all your help.

                            Hi all,
I have mounted the Minelab Oscillator and the 2 tones mod send by Silverdog onto my TGSL.
                            It works like a charme.
You can buy with confidence !
                            Regards,

                              Hugo,

Can you please post a pic of your board. I am expecting my 2 tone from Silverdog very soon and still can figure out out how the piggy back works. Does the 2 tone board actually plug into one IC chips or if floats above the main board but just wired to it.

Two chips connectors (U106 and U107) + wires.
I'll send you a pic of my board as ASAP.
