  • TGSL coil making

    Hi all,
i could yet not find a supplier in Germany for the 0,25mm wire to make the coil. The only wire they all have in stock is either 0,22 or 0,28mm. Using these would have an impact on the detector itself and it might not be usable after all.
Has anybody experience with alternate wire thicknesses like the one above ?

    Cheers
    Dirk

I have played with 24 gauge (.5 mm!) and seemed to have some trouble (which might be surmountable), but that was extreme. I would think both those choices would work pretty well, and I would favor the 28 mm to start with (just because it might give you slightly more gain).

Others may have direct experience with those thicknesses you have available.

Thanks for your opinion Simon.. too bad 0,5 didn't work out
Actually it should turn out to have influence on the mH and therefore the windings must be different. Nothing that can not be calculated but i was just confused no one has raised this question before...

      Cheers

I find that it takes some trial and error to get the desired mH no matter what. The main problem is that when you bind your coil tightly, the mH rises by .5 mH or so, but it differs depending on how you wind, bind and glue.

On the other hand, if you use 100 turns for Tx and 105 turns for Rx coil, you probably will get a working MD, even if frequency off a little.

        Regards,

P.S. someday I'll get that darn .5 mm working -- I have 7 lbs of wire!

          Hi Dirk ,

Why don't you ask Bernte One or Der Fisherman ( import German ) were they ordered there AWG30 ...

They are both from Germany and have been working on the same project

          kind regards,

            Hi Dennis,
this would have been my next step. I just wanted to avoid placing 5 different orders to get all the stuff i need for my project.

            Cheers

              hello dirk

yes, why you dont ask us

              look at this shop
              http://www.spulen.com/shop/product_i...oducts_id=1423

and you can also try other diameter

if you do a coil first time take some more turns than required and than cut off the lenght you dont need until you get right inductance thats how i do

the specs which are in the coil making guide are only the same if you do 100% like the one who write the guide

              good luck

Ive used .39 and far as I can see theres no noticeable difference just make sure you meter for the correct inductance anything from 5.7-6.0 for TX and 6.2-6.5 for RX try for 5mh difference between the two although have got away with 3mh.
Only negative on using thicker gauge wire is cost and wight.

                Regards

                      http://www.reichelt.de/

                      it is better

                        Thanks for your suggestions
I'll go with a 0.28mm wire for my first coil.

                        Cheers

I am going to attempt to build my first coil. If it fails, which commercially ones I can use on the TGSL-EDU kit that I get from Silverdog?

Where is the best place to buy a handle/coil pole?

                          Who sells blank coil forms?

                            hello gsignal888

you can use the 5pin coils for your project, best you look online for detector parts.

blank coil forms are offered from georgi the thread is here
                            http://www.geotech1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17596
cantact him per mail he makes an offer
i got five coil corpuses from him very good

you also can do your own by vacuum forming
                            http://www.geotech1.com/forums/showt...ghlight=vacuum
