  • Help with coil for Silverdog Surf PI

    Hello Everyone,
I got my Silverdog Surf PI kit assembled. I now need to concentrate on the coil. I have been reading a lot of posts on coils. That is just confusing me more. I sure could use some help on what to use. I would like to use it mainly for beach hunting. To search for coins, Gold & Sliver jewelry. What wire size (AWG), diameter and # of turns should I use for a stock Surf PI kit. This is my first home built detector. Also if possible the most readily available and least expensive wire would be a bonus. Once I can get this going then I will tweak & experiment with it. I appreciate any help I can get.

    Regards,
    Dennis L.

Read this one back a time ago.

    Simple enough.

"The surf pi is quite forgiving in its coil specs. I have tried everything from 20 to 30 turns between 8 and 10 inches.
    I have now settled on:
    21 turns
0.4 mm enamelled copper magnet wire
    9.75 inches
    Mylar shield
    Using:
    IRF9460
    390 ohm damping"
