  • working shielded coil for my Tesoro home brew

Having ripped out the alu tape shield I thought, 'well manufacturers bother to do it so it must work...' so, the Mk2. This time I used copper tape as you can see. The Tx coil is held in place with silicone sealant (in the gap between the two plant saucers). Does it work ? Is the Pope a Catholic ? Yep. And I can see that when I connect up the screen, the null drops, however, I have also noticed in my research that many manufacturers fit the Rx coil a bit off centre. When I did this with mine (more later) I was able to find the exact null point and achieve zero mV null. One other thing - this shield does not form a complete turn ie it is broken just under the rim by the vero, so that I do not have a closed loop situation. I believe this was the problem, but as I have found, not all the info is in the same place. Dave Emery mentions something similar (which set me going).

This may be so, yet I see some 11 quality shorted triangles.

Doh! Yes, its crap. Again. I think I may ditch the shield. It did work before I made the tri-angles, ie just spokes from the middle to the band aruond the edge, but then surely, a classic farraday cage is just a pile of joined up squares ? Nearly there though...
