Big leap! Coil seems to work with a shield too (the shield was fine before but the problem was....I hadn't connected it.)
I have posted the circuit and more info in the schematics section. First real test was to go through the first part of the set-up in the Tesoro handbook - free-air metal, coin. This did just what the book said it should but the range was quite a bit better. I got the first blip of a detection at a foot (50p piece), then at about 7" it was really solid. I found out why the DISC mode was so useless last year - I had a diode in the wrong way round.Doing some tidy up now. I will post more pics and results after final tests.
Q: I read a post somewhere that said, '....and I have found around 150 coins in the last year or two, all at about 5 to 8 inches, so what does that tell you ?' (ie he was pleased).
A very helpful chap had replied...'that you don't understand ground balance'.
Why would he say that (apart from being an arrogant conceited patronizing twat).
