  • CTX Coil

Do you think anyone will ever reverse engineer the large CTX coil and produce an assortment of lower cost replacements for it?
    Or can it be done?

I suspect the CTX follows the X-Terra and has an embedded micro which is (partly) used to ID the coil. It depends on whether ML uses a secure algorithm to ping the coil and check the response, or whether the coil just says, "I'm a Minelab 11" DD coil" when it powers up. I assume there is something secure because, at first, ML refused to let 3rd parties build X-Terra coils, which they could have done without permission if it was easy to figure out. So, my opinion is, if 3rd party coils come along, they will be expensive.

I'm always amazed at your answers Carl. Just goes to show how little I really know. Thanks for the information.

How is the machine coming along?
I went hunting to my bad lands today, you know the land where the samples I sent you came from. Man this is tough ground.
I ran the F75 in all metal mode and dug all signals. Fred took the V3i and he always seem to pull something nice from this area.

A multifrequency machine always does better in these areas.

Remember you have an open invitation to test any machine at these sites. You develop something that works here and I'll sell ever machine I have and buy one.
I've had several forum users state a PI is the only kind that will work, but I don't know.

I'm curious if anyone has experience checking out for sure a CTX coil for the presence of a microchip. Is there power transfered through the cable? Does the chip ID the coil size or just validate Minelab made it? Did coiltec purchase rights to manufacture or hack their own solution?
