  • WHITES DUAL FIELD COIL

can anymore tell more about the whites dual field coil...i know the small coil is in series with the larger coil...if a single coil is say 400 uH then are the two coils 200 uH each making total of 400 mH ??? are both coils wound as one coil ????

thinking you ask Carl... nobody will tell you secrets of Whites. because commercialism.
I know about the whites dual coil nothing... but we made what you call dual field via such way - outer coil is approx 2/3 winding, inter 1/3. it was certainly mono coil.

It is patented, and everything to know about it is there.

i think having small inner coil will give better response to small gold with reduced depth compared to larger coil...i did listen to a whites engineer on youtube talk about the theory of the latest surfmaster pi machines and it seems they have improved them by increasing the gain of the front end and maybe even the dc amp...maybe they use ultra low noise amps so they can increase overall gain...i want to ma ke a second coil and maybe try two coils in series with each other and see if i can improve on my first coil...i know people on the beach who have whites dual field machines and they do really well even be ttering minelab machines for gold finds...i think whites have the edge in pulse technology.

Aziz did a lot of work in the coils forum on this.

          Check it out

i really want to make my second coil and i want to take a shot at making a dual coil...can anyone tell me if i wind the large and small coil as one coil or do i wind both
separately then connect in series ?????

Did you read the patent abstract?
anyhow does this picture help ?

                hello daverave

if you make a dualfield coil use the photo from kt315
connect both coils in serie (in same winding direction)

to improve the simple dual field coil form the inner coil
                to a tri-spiked star
you get a coil with sections of higher and lower magnetic field concentration
it ist a good mix for ground penetration and small objetct sensivity

i looked at the patent diagram and it shows two damping resistors but the picture of the home made coil shows no second damping resistor...just two wires coming out of coil....i was wondering if its possible to use two different gauges of wire with this coil...like thinner gauge for smaller inner coil....what you think ????

what is a tri spiked coil ??? never heard of that type of coil construction.

Probably I should wait for bernte_one to explain, but maybe he meant a connection topology similar to found in three phase electrical work..... the star/wye.

That's a way of bypassing the White's coil patent.
The inner coil isn't round anymore. *LOL*

is the dual field coil one continuous winding or two separate windings then connected in series ??? i would guess the large and small coil would share the total inductance of around 350 uH ????

I performed the dual field coil as follows:
The two coils have the same number of turns.
A coil of 30 cm, 16 turns, and the other 20 cm diameter, 16 turns.
                            Both coils are in series.
The center coil leads damping resistance.
At the ends of the coil carries another damping resistance.
The resistance values are experimental buffer.
The advantage is a better detection of small objects.
                            See the diagram below.
