I have the basic White's TDI with the standard 12" dual field coil. I'm in the middle of making a 9" mono coil and a couple of questions have come up. I read numerous times in various forums that the standard TDI coil inductance is about 300uH. I wound my experimental coil accordingly, and it actually has slightly less than 300uH inductance. I finally got a real LCR meter, a DE-5000, and I measured the inductance of my stock coil at 350 uH. My experimental coil is still at the stage where I can add a few windings to bring the inductance up close to 350uH. Is there a real advantage to this, or will the almost 300uH coil work just fine on a TDI?
My next and last question is about the TDI coil cable connector pinout. I understand that the two coils in the standard 12" dual coil are wired in series. The stock cable has a 5 pin connector, with pin 3 not used. Pins 2 and 4 are jumpered together. i measured 350uH from pins 2 and 4 (jumpered together) to pin 5.
There are also two wired connected to pin 1 and I'm not sure what they are.
The connections may be White's proprietary information, really all I'd like to get some advice on is what pins do I connect my mono coil to? Right now my plan is to jumper between pins 2 and 4 like the original configuration and connect my coil between pins 2 and 4 and pin 5. I plan on not using pin 1 and pin 3. Am I headed in the right direction?
Appreciate any advice or comments anyone may have.
Thanks,
Bob
