  • Identify a Coil

I bought this coil off Ebay, it was advertised as a Bounty Hunter Magnum.
It came in and had a BNC connector on it and read very low ohms. I took
another look at it today and found it to be open. The base of the coax where
it enters the housing was broken so I ground away the plastic a bit to fix it.

Now I read 40 uh it seems a bit low even for a PI detector. So anyone know
what I have here and how much it should read?

I finally found a technique to remove the epoxy and made some progress at that.
It has a copper pcb inside. Is it for shielding or an etched coil perhaps?

thats a bit of a mystery mate, i did'nt think there were bounty hunter pi's, but it must be pi to only have two wires?, if you extrapolate that it is pi, you dont think the magnum could be some sort of joke, as in magnum pi.
i suppose it could be a bfo coil, the exposed copper is a riddle in its self, i rekon its an old bfo coil, one of the oldies may know this one, i bet carl george or maybe dave j., the worst part is you will probably have to destroy it to find out.http://www.whiteriverprep.com/vintag...hI_II_III.html
maybe this one a magnum coil is mentioned.

Wow thanks for the info! So the ad was right, it is a Bounty Hunter Magnum.
I'm going to have to remove the pcb in order to use it and it's tough going
but it could make a cool coil housing!
