    Yeah can see if quality control is not so good on a particular day, calibration could be a problem machine to machine. That being said, I do own a Beast and have found it useful. It is fairly easy to tell iron from non-ferrous metal, and excellent pin-pointing target. And depth, what can I say . . . excellent. But definitely not a machine for everyone. The perfect machine has not yet been built that does it all. Just my two cents worth.

      Here's the probe I made from an old Fisher 1220X with a 3 and a half inch coil fitted to it. I don't think that you can get those coils nowadays though. The electrics part is in a sandwich box that fits in my waist pouch and the coil and stem just sticks in my belt.

        haha, nice one muddy, i made i coil for my barracuda that size as one of the beaches i detect has small but deep patches of sand between rocks, been after a decent 1220x for ages, id probably rebuild that with new case and handle aw well each to his own.
