Using epoxy potting compound works out to be quite expensive, would it be possible to use a polyurethane Liquid Plastic Casting Resin without causing any loss of sensitivity? which looks to be less than half the cost, Any other suggestions appreciated, Fastglass etc.? What did you seal yours in?

I was thinking the same thing. I had my eye on something like this;
http://www.ebay.com/itm/230965868396...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Haven't tried it yet though. Seems it cost a bit to make your first coil. Sure wish there was something cheaper...
I just found this in my favorites. Not sure the price...

Hmm $35 for 12 oz.....

does not seem a lot cheaper than
epoxy
750g Resin/hardener kit @£15.34 = 26 OZ
I used polyester resin because it was cheaper but even with the minimal amount of catalyst it got quite hot next one I do I will try epoxy and see if there is any difference.

All I use is MG "non-conductive" potting epoxy that DBowers uses. Easy to work with and you can use it indoors without horrific odors or toxic fumes.
A bit more expensive, made for the purpose......................worth it.Attached Files

i would also like to point out that the real cost of that resin if you are in uk is 81. 75 dollars including postage, you have to be carefull with the postage.
i never buy anything where the postage costs more than the product, i was looking at a freq generator the other day the kit was 6 dollars but the postage was 45 this is outrageous imho.

have ebay put up their rates recently?, just recently a few of my ebay suppliers seem to have ramped up prices, seems to be a lot of substitution as well, people i have used for ages suddenly sending out cheap reproductions of the advertised object, sent back a load of phono chassis mount connectors last week(use them for custom amps), cheeky gits tried to say they were the same as allways, as if i did not notice? paypal is getting my money back.

Normally if its a company that's selling on EBay if you go to there website direct it's cheaper as the PayPal percent does not have to be added to the price. Look in the contacts details for there name.
I did a google search for fibreglass suppliers near me and found one in Sandbach bit dearer than the cheapest online but its local and when you want about 1 kilogram then it's about the same without the postage to pay
picking some up Thursday so we will see if its any good

if i want detector specific parts that i dont normally carry i buy them as needed from silverdog, it may be only a tenner or so but i would rather give it to a fellow geotecher, actually thats a good tip if you need parts to repair or mod a detector even if you are out of the uk it may be cheaper than ebay.
