Is it necessary to make a shield in the Baracuda's coil?
basically the original anchor barracuda has no shield, with the setup it has- minimum delay 25us, 8" basket coil, or 11" mono center tapped
the need to shield the coil comes from two things, running faster than 20 us and using ordinary mono coils, but even in those circumstances only minimal shielding is needed, i have tested this and when barracuda is made to makers specs no coil is needed, ally foil is detected by my barracuda both stock and tuned versions as was copper tape, center tapping the coil was more than enough on my stock barracuda even in my noisy shack, the tuned version required something more, graphite shielding was used 1k per inch.
so from my experiences i reckon that while your barra works that ally shield must be lowering depth, IMHO
I do not know what to say. Unfortunately, I have not others Baracudas than mine to try , but the last one that I built detect a one euro coin at 35 cm (the latest buzz), clear at 30cm .
I can not measure the delay, because I only have a multimeter (a good one, but only a multimeter) and little experience in electronics.
To regulate my Baras, I use the old "Ivconic method": ear, time and patience, a hanging coin and a lot of wasted copper wire.
I will take pictures on the beach and maybe make some videos to show you the performance of my MD's.
Thanks again to those who were interested in my problem.
