  • Need some tips on opening search coils for repair

Can you guys share what kind of knife or any special way you have learned to open coilsl? I need to balance some Nautilus coils and in the past they were very hard to open.

I know you guys have mastered the art of opening the coil without damaging it.

Thanks, photos and/or video of the knife or techniques appreciated,

Depends on the coil and how it's sealed. If it's a shallow MEK ring then a Stanley carton cutter works well. Once you get the blade inserted it's easy to run it around the perimeter and split the seal.

Carl, just one of those thin bladed box cutter type?

It's a Nautilus coil and years ago they seemed to be tough to open but I was using a regular razor knife like you use on construction.

      Thanks

I am back to working on the coils. Thanks for the photos, I had not been reading this forum for ages. I am trying to rebalance the coils but some are proving a real challenge since I don't have an electronics background just a love for metal detectors/detecting. feel free to email me directly to keep in touch and share results [email protected]

            thanks
