  • Garretts A3B American Gold Hunter 1988

I purchased the A3B when they first appeared on the market in 88. I've owned and operated Whites and Garretts from the late 70's and ended up with a Garrett Master Hunter ADS 7. I have worked the ADS 7 for many years since(30 years +), using many extra coils sizes. What a great design. The ADS 7 is a 5.5khz 5 pin machine.

On the other hand, the A3B is a 15khz 5 pin machine. All that is a given. The question is, would coils made for the A3Bs younger sister, the Gold Stinger, fit the A3B with out any mods? If they could, then I can purchase other coils made for the Stinger by anyone to supplement my A3Bs inventory.

I know by asking around different MD dealers that not too many people remember the A3B. It had an older sister, the A2B, mainly successful in the Australian gold fields. Maybe someone in the territories can help?

I have just recently purchased Carls book, though I haven't gotten through it yet. If there is something in it related, or a way to build a coil 3"x7" for this oldie, please inform me. Thank you all for your time and consideration. Bill in N.C. USA
