Hey guys, I am building a coil for my TGSL. All I had handy was a few spools of magnet wire that is a bit larger than the .025 that is specified. I have met the inductance requirement on my Tx and Rx, but the resistance is (obviously) too low. Can I just add an in line resistor to get the resisitance in spec, or do I just get the correct wire size? Thanks for the help.

Try the TX on the TX oscillator if it oscillates it's ok. If not you need a different TX design to use it.
You could try a resistor. The TGSL has been used with lots of different coils so it might work. I used
0.55mm wire at 45 turns with the Minelab oscillator (see IGSL thread) and it works fine!
Higher resistance is generally better for the receiver but lower should just give a bit more noise. So
add a bunch of windings or not and see what happens...

Thanks for the input. This is my first coil, so I am trying to be careful. I just picked up a large spool of 22 Guage wire that should serve me well. I have 5 coil housings from Bill Hayes to use up, so these windings are going to show me what shape will fit in the housings with room to move for nulling.

I made a bunch of coils to Ivonics TGSL specs and finally got a good one. Then I bought the
Belgian coil housing that I though he was using but the housing is 10 1/4" and the coils are 9 1/2"!
Darn I guess I'll have to buy some more wire....
Let us know how you got them to fit. The housing I have is a bit tight and I wonder how to make
the coil to fit and be adjustable. My old coil was big where they crossed so I would have to have a
deep housing to use it. I'll null it on a piece of plywood or something and experiment with it for a while
anyways.
