  • Tesoro Deep Search

    Hi!

I have bought an used Tesoro coil.
It is called Deep Search and it is diameter is about 11".
It has a 5 pin connector.

I get some data using multimeters.
You can see all the data in the attached image.

Please, I would like to know if I can use this coil with Eldorado.
If the answer to the question is no, please could you inform me which tesoro metal detector can I use with it?
    Thank you in advance.

    Best regards,
    MaverickITA

I have a schematic of Eldorado that is not clear on the ground connection at Rx input, and suggests that the ground connection is in a coil connection, and not on a PCB. If that is so you can use this coil after you make sure all connections go where they need to.

      Hi Davor!

I agree, I can search and found the corrispondence.

But the original Eldorado coil use 6.5mH for RX and 5.9mH for TX.
      This coil is different.
It has about 5.6mH for RX and about 6.1mH for TX.
Therefore is necessary also to change all capacitors in TX (n.2) and in RX (n.1) sections to use it with Eldorado at minimum.

However, I would like to know for which Tesoro metal detector it was designed.

      Thank you.

        As in the image up.

Note: about the first image "Coil Specs TDS.jpg" I suggest to see it.
I think it is very useful to all because are presents inside all measure I have done in ohm and in mH.
These informations are good for anyone would like to build a similar one at home.

Most probably it will work as-is because inductances are well within 10% tolerances, and the only difference would be Rx input configuration that has to be balanced for this coil. Eldorado has a differential input which is fine for a balanced coil, and it will do fine if the inverting side is not connected to ground (as indicated on a schematic but as a part of coil connection).

Thank you Davor, I will try it as soon as possible.
And I will inform you about the results using the forum, it is important to share informations.

However, I hope to know for which model of Tesoro metal detector in origin this coil was made...

I believe this is the schematic. The Deep search is one of the oldest Tesoro's. I have a 7"
coil from one I reticently bought thinking it was a wide scan type coil.

I have found it to be more of a "Shallow Search" coil as it looses and inch to my Brown 8" coil..

See entry #211 in this post for more info. I thought it was a Deep Scan at the time but it clearly
              says Deep Search...

There are pictures on the inside at entry #217.

                Hi Silver Dollar!
Thank you, I think you have found the solution.
I do not know that existed also a detector called "Deep Search".
I have found three user manual inside the Tesoro web site.
                http://www.tesoro.com/info/manuals/manuals.html
They referring to release IV, VI and VII.
Can be that this coil is for the model you propose or for a newer.

I have bought it as 'Tesoro Laser 11" widescan coil 5 pin'.
But I did not found the word "Laser" on it.
The logo is a bit damaged and only the words 'Deep Search' are readable.

About #211, comparing I have differents value.

About #217, my coil is black but I am not sure that it is the original color.
And also a tail is present. In your photo instead it is absent.
I prefer to make some photo as soon as possible and publish them.

Do you think that can I use it with Bandido or SilverSabre metal detector without modification?

Yes it will work with the older Tesoro's that use 5 pin connectors though I'm not sure what effect
the center tapped RX will have. I haven't gotten far enough to test discrimination accuratly.

What are the values you get from your coil?

I have already provided the values.
The values are present inside the image "Coil Specs TDS.jpg" at Post #1.
                    Please, read it.

These are instead the photos relative to the coil:

Opps sorry I missed that. So you have the famous RX inductance lower than TX coil!

                      TX 6.1 mh
                      RX 5.6 mh

It might work better with 2 - 3 nf added to the RX tuning cap...
