7" Bounty Hunter Coil Conversion To Tesoro Specs

I bought an old Bounty Hunter 505 ID (nonworking) at the Flea Market for $10 and
decided to modify the 7" coil to work on my TGSL.

I opened it up by slicing all around with an xacto then pried the housing away from
the foam inside. It was a little tough but using a paint scraper helped get up inside.



I picked out all the foam bit by bit;


Revealing the RX and Buck coils;


TX and notice only the bottom housing is painted with conductive paint;


I attached drain wires then painted both half's with graphite;


And glued the new TX (wound to 6.2mh) down;


Next to wind the RX and Buck...

you make your own graphite paint or you buy it if you made it how. i am gonna try i have graphite sticks and boat varnish i think there's a thread about it somewhere.

I saw your reply in another thread a few days ago. I've been wanting to try graphite shielding. When I saw it keeps grass from sticking to the mower deck I had a few reasons to purchase some(shielding,available locally, mower deck and cost). I bought a quart can at the local tractor supply not knowing if the spray can would be enough for the mower deck. Made a test coil. So far it looks good, passes the hand test. Would like to test for attenuation and if it's better to cover just the coil or cover the housing. I see in your post above they covered only the bottom of the housing. Thanks for the information.

I've seen other coils where they put a square of copper approximately 2" x 2" and
tied that to shield for grounding. So it's possible a full shield is not necessary...

The spray stuff is easy to apply, though I got a clog after 2 coils. I think the graphite
sometimes clumps. I was shying away from shielding until I found this stuff!
