  • Problem with 11" concentric

I have a Tesoro Bandito with the brown 8" coil. I bought a 11" coil off ebay that I
couldn't use so decided to make it work with the Bandito. I got some foam and wire
and wound up a concentric. The TX was low (5.5V) and poor air test depth. My TX
resistance was a bit high so I got some thicker wire and rewound it.

Now I have 8.5V p/p just like the Brown coil and the RX is nicely nulled but I still get
only 7" in an air test. The brown coil tests to 8". I didn't want to change the RX cap
as I want it to work with the brown coil.

When I originally set it up I ran the TX and RX wires separately with shield on it's own
wire and grounded the shield to TX minus in the connector at the control box. After
winding the new TX I tied the shield, TX minus and RX minus together in the coil
like I assume the Brown coil is. I had it sounding when you touched the ground balance
pot with the separate wires but seems good now.

What can I do to increase the air test? I assume it should test the same or a little better
    than the 8". Any ideas?

Well I was able to squeeze 8" out of it by jiggling the tickler coil
between the TX and buck but it still seems like it should do a little
    more...

Working with it today it was very noisy. If it didn't chatter so much I could get decent depth out of it.

For the heck of it I connected up my new 6" "OO" coil. It was nice and quiet and got 8" on most targets.
So why does the smaller "OO" do better than the 11"?

I might have to trash it and use the housing for a PI coil....

Well I actually renulled it and it quieted right down! Now to find some reasonably priced Epoxy...

Great, that you successful solve problem.
Can you post this coil data (L/R/[C?]) here?

Well here's the cheapest epoxy I could find $11 for 9 oz. I figure it will take 1/2 that for one coil.
