Just an update on my coil.

Tried over a few different types of ground. Plough stubble and pasture

Seems okay. Best depth vs useability seems to be to ground balance the machine start detecting and if it falses keep turning the ground balance more positive until the falsing is under control.

Picked out some small buttons from an area covered by 2" rusty nails. Tiny medieval casket key from an area of a field that was used to dismantle farm machinery. Couple of crotal bells and a silver ring. So all in all very happy.

Few observations I have noticed is it will not work with batteries as low as before. 16 or so hours and the tone is not as clear and more double triple beeps. Before I was getting closer to 40. Not sure if its the coil or brand of batteries

Nearby objects have more of an effect on the tone you hear. (pinpoint near by objects in all metal mode then swing back over the target in a direction that's away from any surrounding objects.)

Corroded jeans/shirt buttons ( the type that when upside down look like a hat with 4 holes) no longer give a clear tone even at 0 discrimination

Well I have been using this coil(27CM DD) lately. Had some nice finds with it. However I have become to hate it.

      Good points

      Deep
      Greater ground coverage

      Bad points

The deep coins are pre decimal copper coins(is it worth the time digging them out)
Pinpointing vertical items are normally half the diameter of the coil out and in the side of the plug
Iron masking is terrible even iron several inches away form the coil affect it
Does not run well over wet pebbly ground.

All in a all works well for air tests not so hot on most farm land I have tried. Horse shoes, nails and plough shear make it worse than a 8" concetric
