  • Viking VK30 coil

Recently i got Viking VK30 metal detector... but without coil.
It's alright, switching ON, fully operational, so it seems.
I did several skim tries with other coils in my workshop and seems original VK30 coil is beast on it's own, differs much from what i have available here.
So i guess; i will have to try to make it.
According to what i saw during the checks; seems TX coil is higher inductance than 10mH!
Anybody here having original coil? Simply to measure TX&RX coils resistances and inductances?

You could ask them if they sell the coils alone:
    http://www.metaldetectors.co.uk/vk30...-pr-16139.html
A guy on a UK forum got a VK5 coil a couple of years ago,
Quote:"Viking ... told me that they would get a coil out to me by tomorrow. All for the cost of £25.00 so that's a good result."
25 Pounds = 37 US dollars, very cheap.

      Thanks!
      My VK30 is older model.
      Hopefully it's the same thing.

So... it really looks impossible that no one from "world forum No.1" is not able to provide me with coils specs for Viking VK30???
        Here are some photos of the detector;

Still haven't find coil data... alright; i am passionate man, sooner or later...
In meantime i disassembled whole thing in a pieces, scanned all pcb's and traced them out.
          Than i assembled them again.
Now am in progress of drawing complete schematic... which i will not share, of course!
But what i wanted to point out is funny trivia; it's outlook is rather modest and far for being impressive... while inside is pretty complex design!
Is it famous "British modesty" or just bad advertising?
If i was not opened it and not analyzed it's circuitry and if i was judging only according to it's outlook; i would have wrong impression that it is just another simple useless toy... how wrong i could be!
Bottom line; inside there is indeed complex and very interesting design.
          Just for illustration:

As far I know only Viking 5 (Viking 1) was dismantled and reversed. Never seen something like schematic for Viking 30, which I am sure use the same coil as Viking 20.

Viking 5 is funny toy with just 10 components... nothing comparing to VK30!
I was more than (pleasantly) surprised when opened box for the first time!
