  • DIY coil for Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II for deeper searching about 4 - 6 meters .

Hi. Is there someone who made a square coil to search deeper with Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II.
Can i use another coil or make one for deeper searching ?
Does anyone know if the monocoil 8'' has two wirings ? (TX two pins , RX two pins )

    Thank you.

Hi,I have Sea Hunter II 8"coil i was going to use on a Baracuda PI, i also wondered if it had two coils, according to Garrett coil specs the mono coil they show has a TX and RX winding but it does not specify the model.

I measured the resistance between the four pins and found 2.6 ohm between pins 1 and 3 and 2.6 ohm between pins 2 and four.I then linked pins 3 and 2 and measured 3.6 ohm between 1 and 4 effectively putting the two coils in series (if there is two coils) I found a chart on the net specifying coil resistance and inductance of commercial coils and the Sea Hunter II 8" was 118.6uH 1.18 ohm.I am still not 100% sure about 2 windings maybe someone could shed some light.

I have successfully used a Garrett Seahunter coil (14" x 10") on a Crossbow PI. There are two loops in the coil shell that are wound together at the periphery. This coil is not an induction balanced type.

      Orange and White/Orange = 122.8uH
      Blue and White/Blue = 126uH

Blue and White/Orange as coil connection = 514.7uH (which is suitable for the Baracuda).

Thanks Qiaozhi, very interesting would you know which pins of the plug the Blue and White/Orange relate to and maybe this coil would work on the Minipulse Plus which quotes 300uH and 500u.

Unfortunately I don't remember, as the plug is a Garrett proprietary one and had to be replaced to match the Crossbow PI.
It should work fine with the Minipulse Plus, as long as you use it as a mono.

Some time ago I cut open my faulty 8” seahunter mark ii coil
There are 4 “pins” on the plug. (2 pins with points, 2 pins with holes)
Reading from left to right starting from the bottom.
            Pin 1 white/blue
            Pin 2 orange/draw wire
Pin 3 blue (above pin2, pin3 has hole)
            Pin4 white/orange (above pin1, pin4 has hole)
            Pin 1-3 1.1 ohm 109 uH
            Pin 2-4 1.1 ohm 111 uH
            I hope that helps

Sorry for reopening an older thread, but it is close to what I want to do. Did you ever find out any reliable information about the possibility of building a coil for the Sea Hunter II? Also, there seem to be at least two older threads on here (one by Tim Williams aka lrlman) about building coils for a Garrett Sea Hunter XL500. Can anyone clue me in on whether that information can be safely applied to the Sea Hunter II, or whether the detection circuitry of the two machines is mutually incompatible? Thanks.
