is it possible to make a home made coil my kid she is only 10 and the coil it too heavy for her, i was thinking of a shell and filling it with foam beads to make it light as possible ?

It's a pretty tall task. Did you try setting the rod as short as possible?

Best kids ACE coil solution. Deep almost as 5x8 stock coil:

it was set right for her height and i not paying as much for a coil as i did for the detector, why sell a detector with a solid resin filled coil, the thing is the coil is the part that weighs most on the detector, i even find it heavy to use, has anyone got a diagram or that how to build one ill give it a go

Trimer is in parallel with short number part of RX turns (from tap to end - it could be 2 turns or with changeable (re-solderable) multi-tap in step by 1 turn).

Bucking coil should be placed on top of TX coil (mean same dimension, coaxial)

L1 is wound in one direction for transmitter
L3 is wound in the same direction for the receiver
L2 is wound the other direction and on top of the receiver.

It can be done but not easy to build a concentric without some knowledge and an oscilloscope.

For example a few millimetres out in diameter will affect the number of turns of L2.

Build Tx and Rx as described. Any tuning is done with number of turns of Bucking Coil.

Cant see this going to well for a first build.

Took me a few attempts to get a good coil with a good shield. Without the add pressure of making it super light.

By the time you have bought the shell, wire, connecting cable, connector, resin and strain relief it will not be much cheaper.

Do find it annoying that the sniper coil is 20-30 dollars cheaper in the USA

                        secondhand maybe ?
