  • filling / resin for coil what do you use?

    Hallo People,

Last week i made a 380mm coil i fill up the coil with epoxy resin. It works very well but its pretty heavy in my opinion its impossible to search with it for a few hours.

I'm wondering what you people use to fill up you coil housings, i there maybe a light weight filling material? Or maybe first a layer of foam and on top of it a layer of a few millimeters resin.

    best regards
    Stefan

    Why Fill it with Anything?

As long as your coil is held Securely, it should be OK.
And fillers change the parameters of the coil.

I was just thinking. Maybe its a good solution to glue the coil in the housing and fill the rest of the housing with foam or with expanding foam?

Foam is Light and somewhat OK, but still not needed.

Be Careful with Expanding Foam, it can warp your coil as it expands.

There is foam which is not expanding. It`s used for thermo isolation of buildings.Just ask the guys in the shop.
