  • Coil material selective

I have notice after winding, concentric an basket weave coils, they all detect copper material much better than other materials, coins large an small. I was of the thinking that copper is a very good conductor, or am I not correct. Best to all Jim

    Jim, you have to distinguish:
    1. Ohm/Galvanic conductivity
    2. Eddy/Foucault current conductivity

    what do you mean?

I am testing the coils in free space, as I move a coin, copper ,silver, and gold over the various coils. I have noticed that the greater distance from the coil to activate the detector is a copper type object. I really don't check iron or steel targets, because I am trying to figure out how to make a coil with a ohmic resistance of about .5 ohm, about 300 or so micro henrys and a very high "Q". I probably will never get out in the field with detector, but I enjoy the learning process. Best to all Jim
