Garrett nowadays has its cheaper models like the ace series built in foreign climes therefore inevitably because once tooled up the production line doesn't like to stand idle, lookylikeys begin to appear between runs and boards etc are quickly cloned.
The motto of this is keep proprietary tech proprietary and produce in-house wherever possible.
Better to sell a really innovative product properly made (safeguards built into the boards) it is expensive but you pay peanuts you get monkeys.
The Hermit Crab MK4 tm will be a fully discriminating Deep seeking PI with on board magnetometer selling for £11:50p including p and p LOL Snarrff

There is a video on YouTube where a guy disassemble a Garrett sea hunter mark2.
Also from what I've seen, the detector can eliminate bottle caps which is good for the beaches down in Trinidad where I live. All the beers come in glass bottles, so no pull tabs to deal with. I've been hunting the beaches here for about 5 years, and bottle caps is a pi greatest enemy.

Go over pcb with strong magnifying glass, look for cracks or any damages. Then I would start to check for voltages, proper power supply. Then you can wave a piece of metal over coil while checking preamp output. If the front end if functional, then you know that the problem is further down the chain. You can scope the sampling. This you will know if micro is working. Etc.

Many people have expressed disappointment with it's performance, but if I can tune out bottle caps and still get down to 8 inches in wet sand, I'm reasonably happy. I'm in no condition to be digging them two foot holes, only to find a bloody crusty old bittlecap

I have a seahunter and they work ok, garrett sales have plummeted here in Australia since they stopped their internet resellers selling direct to Australian customers and force us to buy from the "official" importer, so we boycott all garrett products
try to buy anything Whites, it's also a No Go.
you can't even buy ML from US and have it posted here.
