  • Sealing coils in their former/housing

    Hi All

I am making a 11 inch coil for my Vallon, sorted all the coil design details out but haven't a clue about what I should be filling the coil housing/former with to make it water tight, Epoxy Resin etc.

    Can anyone help me out?

    Hi Pete.
If it is a mono coil epoxy type adhesive is not needed to stabilise the windings, plus it is fairly heavy. I use layers of the white foam packaging that is quite common these days, to compress and hold the windings in place, and glue the housing halves with adhesive silicon- you will need to clamp it well and long before use.
As for DD's there are many posts, PDF's etc. here on securing them.
Any waterprooof adhesive used is only as good as the surface preparation before glueing.

      Thanks Tim

Its a mono PI coil, sounds like painting wood work at home or filling dents in car body work, its all about the prep!

What do you mean by "epoxy type adhesive is not needed to stabilise the winding's"???
