  • PI coil low impedance silicone wire

    Hey everyone,

I found this wire on Amazon and I wanted to know if it would be good for making coils with, I haven't seen anything mentioned regarding silicone wire being used to make pi coils.

    Description

1.High Quality Ultra Flexible Soft Silicone Rubber Copper Wire!Super Low Impedance,Highly Efficient!
2.High strand count copper core,26 AWG silicone stranded wire has 30 strands 0.08 mm tinned copper wire, the copper strands are tinned, protecting them from corrosion and making it easier to solder.
    3.They are constructed with premium silicone rubber insulation.High temperature resistance 200 degree C,Low temperature resistance,in extreme cold -60 degree C.Rated Voltage: 600 volts.Outside diameter 1.5 mm,tolerance +/- 0.1 mm.
4.26 gauge silicone wire spool: Orange total 250 feet.
5.BNTECHGO silicone wire are widely used for model planes, model cars, model ships, batteries, lamps, household appliances, electric heating appliances, meters, instruments, motor lead wire and digital fields.
Also available the right gauge wire from thin 30 AWG to heavy duty 8 AWG silicone wire.8 AWG and 10 AWG available red and black;12 AWG and 14 AWG available 7 colors(Red,Black,Blue,Yellow,Green,White and Gray);16 AWG to 30 AWG available 11 colors(Red,Black,Blue,Yellow,Green,White,Brown,Gra y,Purple,Orange and Pink).

The dielectric constant of silicone is 2.6 which is slightly worse than Teflon (TFE) of 2.15

For PI coils I see no advantage over other wire.

Quality #1 is the main reason to use silicone- it is very flexible and heat resistant. That is why I use it for build Quad Copters.

This wire has excellent qualities for making a fast PI TX coil.
        - 600V is adequate for the high voltage Flyback
-The fine strand tinned wire is very similar in performance to Litz wire.
        - The relative thick silicon insulation helps in producing a low capacitance and therefore fast coil.
        -The price is good.

silicone is heavy and no sence use such wire. you can use it just for deeper coil, not so fast needed, for DELTA PULSE.
i used a wire in fat isolation. 1.5mm is small, i used 3.5mm diameter.
notice - i bough it in ordinary shop, without those amazon bla bla bla High Quality Ultra Flexible Soft Highly Efficient.
capitalistic world again with its all hyperbalization words. if you buy thing you see just giglet in your hands and nothing more.

Silicone is used for high voltage. I last used those in building a 30kW AM transmitter with a tube. Combined with tinned strands that are nearly equal to proper Litz, but far more robust, I'd say this is a perfect wire for PI.

I looked up the dielectric constant for this and it is a little bit on the high side at around 3. Another possibility is this: http://www.alphawire.com/en/Products...n/EcoWire/6711 with polyurethane 600V insulation at around 2.2.

                  Try before you buy?

I had seen this silicone wire a year or 2 ago myself. It is available from several Ebay sellers in different AWG sizes and shorter lengths (...30, 40, 50, and 100M) if anyone wants to TRY it at a lower price. I've been thinking about trying it myself.

Here is an example seller (I have no affilliation - btw): https://www.ebay.com/itm/8-30AWG-Silicone-Cable-Flexible-Wire-UL-US-0-08mm-Series-RC-Cable-Lead-White/153436660832

Also, a chart I found for the wire: Click image for larger version

Obviously, the key points for our use are the tinning, and increased strand count properties that deviate from the AWG standard in composition (but not size).
