It might be a good idea to develope such a device
which you can clamp between coil-cable and connector
because the EM-field energy of many detectors is far
too low.
With some variable resistor etc. to adjust the output
power from 0,5 to 5x to experiment at what settings
the depth is the best.
Will of course just work with coils which have no
extra electronic parts inbuilt and where the receiver-
coil-cables are seperate.
