  • NEL HUNTER coil

    hi DB and amigos
this coil was bring to me for repair. RX winding is not called. TX is good.
so some tricks from me what i do and by what. certainly NO data on this coil nowhere. this coil for Garrett ACE-250.
NO from me those SOS! HELP! BROKEN WIRES! BALANCE AND PHASE SHIFTS etcetera. here is a Guru. no need in the help.
    just my hands and Mind.

i use this substance. do not know how to translate its [functional] name for you.
also question. what the material used for filling coil? - EPOXY OR EPOXY RESIN? what name is right?

I think they use some kind of epoxy based RESIN. But there are so many synthetic resins and different grades of epoxide polymers, who knows?
I would suppose it to be a slow cure type. With low heat.

        Hi
How much is the weight of the search coil? That thing looks like hardened foam.

KT315, any progress on the NEL HUNTER coil? Have you measured the inductances and resistances. Have you deconstructed the coil and drawn a scheme. What are you waiting on? Hurry up, we haven't got all winter!

progress good. i see a break, free wire end. i can not put dissolver on windings because it is too active and may dissolve a varnish cover on RX/TX wires.
            just a pin pointing using.

The substance name is paint remover. Can’t comment on the ingredients. Some of this stuff contain even acids, so you right to not use it on the windings.

not so fast process. i can delete just 1mm layer after day of waiting. this epoxy is hard and seems filled with glass microballoons powder.

try to heat it with a heat gun.
epoxy usually get softer and easy to pick when hot

Try cutting and grinding with Dremel tool. I would not advise chemicals. heating may help soften up the resin. Or just submerge entire coil in some strong acid (nitric acid)chemical. Important thing here is gauge of wires and number of turns and inductances etc. plus any internal components and schematic.
You'll at least have enough info for a total rebuild from scratch.
The NEL HUNTER parameters are what you're after.

The acid will only react with the resin and not with the plastic shell.(hopefully) Industrial strength toilet bowl cleaner comes to mind.
Just squirt some of that goo on the places you wish to soften up.
