  • VLF coil use for PI metal detector

Can we use a VLF coil for a PI, i have attached a pic of a Minelab but without the model number i cant find out if its for a vlf or for a PI machine, All it says is Gold Seach, and i looked online and they used it for both MDs. vlf and pi.
I used adavanced search but cant find anything.

You can use a DD coil or a Mono with the Mini Pulse Plus.
    Cheers

Yes i saw that, but can we use a manufacturers coil, or would it not be worth it because we cant change the paramiters inside with out destroying it, better just to make our own, waiting on a person to send me a bil for this, the surf pro in the sale section, and waiting for silverdog response.
Plus i am still gathering an LCR meter, an oscilloscope, and what ever else i need to build, i ordered a signal generator kit to build and test my soldering skills plus i think it can be used in building coils. I already cleaned my table in my pc room to work on.

The picture is a bit small but if the label says US 4890064, then its the mono PI coil, about 300uH 1 ohm

That looks like it's for the VLF. I have a ml XT17000 vlf and have the 8in version of that coil. The label has US 4890064 and US 4894618 plus two more one Canada and Australia. It has a four pin connector, I believe all the ML pi's have five pin connectors? XT17000 coil, RX 2.46mH 34 ohms(pins1-2), TX 250uH 0.8 ohm (pins3-4). Uses litz wire for both.

Thats interesting, so they have used the same old label for both their mono pi coils and others, didnt know that,
my gold search is the 8 inch pi mono, 5 pin, I use it on my PI QED,

Typical for ML patent approach, to patent as much as possible, sometimes even over
the idea of metal detecting alone:

Seller just replied and said the connector has 5 holes, then it should be a PI coil, its a 10 inch,
