Here are some pics of the new beach coil I just finished for my Explorer II. I used the 11x14 inch eliptical shell I designed recently for Bob, he built one of these for his Sovereign and was reporting such a depth increase Beachcomber and I decided to build one also.
I have not tested mine in the field yet but Bob says..."Just got back from the beach. Your coil design is fabulous. Perfect balance! Skims through the water with little effort." And he found a 14k earing his first trip out!
I was looking for more depth and coverage than the stock coil but with less ware and tare on my shoulder. This coil with cover and cable weighs exactly as much as the stock 10 inch coil (23 1/4 ounces) so I was pretty happy with that. Bob got his Sovereign coil down to 19 ounces. I'm pretty sure I could shave a few more ounces off this one as well.
Note the beefy ears for water hunting, 1/4 inch ID filled with epoxy.
