The easiest way to know for sure is to look inside the control housing to see just what pins are used. Only two pins are needed but I don't remember for sure just how it was connected. I think the center pin of a 3 pin connector is the signal pin and one of the two if not both of the outer pins are the shield.
The design is such that you can't hurt the machine should you get the wiring incorrect, so one could try different combinations. Now, if you get the shield and the main signal wire backwards, the coil will work but be very sensitive to your hand.
The coil connector can be taken apart without causing any damage. The connectors are covered with a clear gel in the area where they are soldered, but I think they can be seen ok. I am reasonably certain the center conductor is the signal wire and the two outer pins are the shield.
You might check this with a digital VOM capable of reading very low ohms to see if the two outer pins are shorted together. There should be about 10 ohm or so between the center pin and either of the outer pins.
Ok i got it, you´re right Reg......the main wire is soldered at the center pin........just one more question.........what is the maximum frequency for this coil ?
I am not sure I understand your question about maximum frequency. The CS 6PI coil was designed for a PI that operated at about 15 usec minimum delay. The coil has 1 mH inductance, typical. At least, that is what it was designed to be.
I have made the coils operate at about 12 usec but that was as good as it got.
The pulse on time will also determine the minimum possible delay for sampling. On the CS 6, the pulse time was 3 times the delay, or 45 usec. The sampling time was 15 usec also.
The CS 6 PI was a reasonably priced PI used for beach hunting where extremely short delays were not necessary. It worked ok for coins, most rings, etc.
My opinion, the coil works ok for experimenting, but I wouldn't base a design on it.
Hi, i´m using a Cscope coil too on my HammerHead, and i´m very happy with it, see the pict. on this forum "Another HammerHead", by the way which project are you working on ???? Capela.
