I found this forum after searching around a little. I would like to try to make a 18" DD coil for a whites goldmaster 4b, Where Do I Start??? I can come up with a jig to wind the wire on a drill cress or lathe, How do I determine the size of wire and number of wraps? I was thinking of mounting the coils to a fiberglass plate then making a cover that just goes over the wires. The 4b is a 50 Herts detector and mine does not have a dd coil already.

You need the inductances for the TX & RX coils, measured from the stock GM4 coil. Then wind the DD coils to roughly match. Probably 24-28 AWG on the TX, 30-34 AWG on the RX will do.

I will be building a few coils for my whites gmt "48khz". I have a faulty coil (belive that the ground shield wire has come loose "falses")
I will be tearing it a part to measure the caps, resistors and coil inductance s. I will put up pics of this and the build. The coil is a DD.Comment

You will need an lcr meter to measure the original coil's inductance and capacitance.
Until I can get my stuff up, here search this forum for the subject matter. There are many sound descriptions of the process. Look for building coils in general.
