  • Question of wire gauge

I found some instructions of making BFO-metal detector from web. Now I'm wondering one thing. Everything else is quite clear to me (my experience of electronic is quite low, but I can handle the basics). How much the coil impedance is depended of wire gauge? For example if the instructions says that I should use 0,4 mm wire for coil (which I can only get 700 meters rolls). But I have 0,5 mm and 0,25 mm wire instead. Can I make the coil with same number of turns using those wires.

Yes, wire gauge is not critical.

You can say the same, but for PI detector ????

I am used 20 awg wire for my coil, what pulse width you recomend me.

Is a 8.2 inch ID and 10 inch OD flat coil, like Gary put in your project.

      Thank,

No critical but i think that is better to use 0.25mm because at BFO metal detectors the search coil is the oscillation coil with very small current flow.
