  • Coil Connecting Cables

Does anybody have a contact for the same cable that Minelab use on their coils? I have been using 8mm Microphone cable and some HDTV cable but the Minelab cable is superior as per C per foot and low resistance. The spiral sheild also negates false signals if the cable moves in relation to the detector coil.

It's probably custom made for them. You might ask Coiltek.

      Hi Peter,

From what I have heard, Carl is right, Coiltek has the wire made for them. However, I have not confirmed this. Trying to find the right coil wire has proven to be a major problem for me also.

Now, I presently use a wire made by Mogami. This has a low C, 17pf/ft and is quite low resistance wise. It also has the spiral wrap type shielding and is invisible to detection. The down side is there is no extra outer covering over the two coax's. Instead, it looks much like two small coax's bonded side by side. Now, I have slipped a split plastic sleeving over it, which helps but it certainly isn't the best arrangement.

Unfortunately, this is the best I have found at the moment.

        Coil Wire

The coil wire used on the Shadow X-5 and X-3 coils is also a very good coil wire but I don't know who makes it or if it was custom made for Troy. The difference between the Shadow and the Minelab wire is that unlike the Minelab wire both Tx and Rx wires are the same diameter with the same thickness of insulation between the inner wire and the shield. It might be easier to find the wire that Troy used since his machine was built here in the USA. The Minelab wire was most likely manufactured in Australia.

If I can get the cable manufactured then who would be up for a few meters?
