How much information about coil performance could we get by measuring the field strength near, below and at different distances from the coils?
Could this be a way to predict performance of coils of different shapes and type of winding?

It all helps if you know that most of the em pulse is directed into the ground.

I measure the pulse intensity by using a current probe connected to a Scope.

You can also use another coil with some LED type diodes across the coil connector and look at light intensity at various distance from a pulsing coil.
