  • Small Coils on Ferrite Cores.

Here is a New Article I Just posted on my site.

Tried this with a MONSTER ferrite I found in a skip, looked something like your figure 1. Coil was only 6" diameter, but gave better depth than a Tesoro 11", and in ground, not much depth loss over in-air depth. Only downside was it weighed 10lbs!!! Not very practical at all.

I wonder about ferrite laced carbon fibre as a former and winding TX /Rx coils on this. Any uther suggestions anyone?

      Hi chemelec,
Do you think the difference between the first and second ferrites may be caused by the hole in the middle of the second?

Also, I was wondering if someone knows if several of these in a grid or array will interfere with each other?

On your page where you show your test results you've got them ranked from one to four, where the two best cores have similar results.

The ferrite cores look very similar and I was wondering if the small hole in the centre of the second-best core could have made the difference between them?

Also, come to think of it, do you think there would be a significant improvement to the ferrite rod if the coil is wound in a single plane perpendicular to the rod, instead of winding it along the rod?

No, It is Not likely it has anything to do with the hole.
I belive it is more the Physical shape of the ferrite material.
These are only a Few examples of ferrite coils that I have made.
I have probably made over 50 different ones.

My Main object was to get better Sensitivity and "Uni-Directional" Detection.
A Ferrite Rod only gives "Bi-Dirctional".
I doubt you second suggestion would be of any advantage.
