Is there anything special about a CZ20 coil other than being hard wired in?
My coil has a faulty connection where the wire goes into the coil. It's not completly broken at this point, but is causeing very eratic behavior.I have been told that only Fisher can replace it.Thats hard to believe.I have found several after market coils, but all say,NO CZ20. Will any CZ coil work?Could I just cut the connector off the new coil and hard wire it back in?Or just install a water proof connector? Thanks for any insight in advance.

If it's already broken, what have you got to lose?
Simply cut the cable a short distance away from the coil, strip back the insulation and check the conductivity using either a multimeter and/or an LCR meter. You can then do a continuity test between the end of the cable and the detector. If you can identify the place where the cable is broken, then it should be a simple matter to replace it.
Are you sure the break is in the cable, or could it be in the search head itself?
I have a 12" Garrett Crossfire coil that had a similar problem. It turned out to be a bad joint in the search head itself between the RX and nulling coil. Unfortunately I had to literally cut away the base of the coil with a knife. When the repair was complete, I then covered over the mess with a new coil cover and secured it in place with silicon sealant. It's impossible to tell that it was previously ripped apart.

The CZ20 coil should be the same as all the other CZ coils. You should be able to clip off the connector and hook it right up.

                Hi
                My CZ 20 is broken.
It sound like tac tac tac and no detection at all. I replace bateries for new ones and notheng. Then i check the pcb board that hold the four nine volts batteries and all looks good.
Then i had to do what don´t wantted to do, cut the coil cable 5 centimeters away from CZ20 control box. This to check the resistance and induction of coil with my LC meter, but everything seems to work fine. Values are:

Two cables inside with center conductor and shiled each one.
I measure shild and inner conductor on one of them and i got 7.203 mH and 30,7 ohms of resistance.
The other cable measures 1.008 mH and 3.0 ohms.
Unfortunaly i don´t have inductance and resistance values for this coil, so if anyone have the information to let me know if this values are normal, i will aprecciate.
I forgot to tell that after i summerged the coil in the wather, on a beach hunting, the next day it stop to work normally.
So i think the problem could be on the coil or coil cable.
Any help will be very helpfull before i get into the circuit that is dry and with no signs of wather to come in.
                Thanks
                Regards
                Nelson
