  • Pulse Star II Coil

    Hello,

I have a PulseStar II Pro detector with an 18 inch round coil and a 1m x 1m square PVC coil. I'd like to build a larger PVC coil, say 2m x 2m, but I don't know where to start. I know very little about electronics but I am willing to experiment constructing coils (so long as I don't damage the detector in the process). I've heard that making coils for PI machines should be easy (much simpler than making coils for VLF units). For starters...

    1) Can someone help me understand the overall coil configuration- i.e., is there only one coil loop in a PI machine, serving as both receiver and transmitter?

    2) Are there any important constraints regarding wire gauge?

    3) How is it that the coil itself is sensitive to metal whereas the cable connecting the coil to the detector is not?

Thanks any help on this topic,

    Rob
