Clive, I suspect both of those Detech coils are not waterproof, just water resistant. If the coil in question isn't epoxy-filled, it aint meant for water use. It will be bouyant and any pinprick of air gap will suck in water. The Coiltek 17x11 UFO is a good one for beach detectorists, as is the 12x8 Platypus.
Thanks for your reply, Aureus. There are a lot of coils listed as viable for tthe TDI but not many that are fully waterproof.
Best Regards

Having done a search on both Serious Detecting and Coiltek get the imporession that neither of these lines are made anymore. Thanks anyhow--might have to be the Nugget Finders.

Clive, all of the Nugget Finder coils are bouyant, not intended for underwater use. ONLY the Coiltek UFO and Platypus coils are. They are foam cored, not epoxy filled like the Coiltek UFO and Platypus coils. The mini UFO is 17x11, same Sq inch specs as a 14" round mono. The Platypus is 12x8 same specs as a 10" round mono. If your intended purpose is saltwater beaches, those 2 styles are the only ones I would recommend...bit harder to find, but worth the effort. Check out Ebay Australia or the free classified site Gumtree.
