  • About the Pirat Coil

    Hello everyone,

    Does anyone here has measured the Pirat metal detector coil, I would like to know the inductance and the Q you have found at about 120Hz?

    I have a couple of coils that have, not sure if they are fine to be used with a Pirat:
    1: 369uH / Q = 0.173 / Dia: 26mm / R = 1.6Ohms
    2: 378uH / Q = 0.196 / Dia: 15 cm / R = 1.45 Ohms

    Thanks

      Hi,
      Q values are not listed here...

      @your coils
      What kind of wire specs (magnet wire or stranded wire, diameter etc) have you used for your coil?

          Hi,

          you are asking for the "modified latest PCB" file? Which one schould it be? I have seen at least 10++ different PCB's of the Pirate PI floating around the Internet. This does not includes the many different PCB's of ready made Pirate Detectors which you can buy for a few bugs on eBay. Further there are more than 7 or 8 different schematics of the Pirate PI. It is hard to tell you which one of them is the latest one.

            Just google "Pirate PCB" and you will be amazed how many different PCB's will popup. And also try the website "pinterest" there are many more to find.

              Dear Geomax;
              I saw one of some this kind of forums but not remember. I searched here also. What do you think which one is better modified or effective ? Do you have any idea ?

                Hi,
                the question is difficult to answer without further information because I do not know which part of the circuit you mean with "modified". For example, if you add a "blinking LED" to the circuit and call it "modified" it will not have any effect to the detector performance. But if you change maybe the front-end receiver circuit part it can have a difference in performance. So about what modifications are you asking now? Or do you have different pirate PI schematics to compare?

                  which part of the circuit you mean with "modified"

                  ok. i'll tell. first version of the sch was done on Soviet made K157UD2. then someone, unrussian, did xchange this chip on TL072. so last revision of board
                  is with using of this chipo.
                  Pirat is not needed in the questions what coil is best. do-as-is. what you want get - you get. this project's payment is one cigarretes unsmoked so that is.

                    Hi KT315,

                    thanks for letting us know. I found this on the Internet. So is this the original Pirate PI schematic?

                      hi amigo
                      i do not follow this project, not my matter, but in first circuit was set NE555 like TX generator. anyway, you can read this russian forum and to seek every step of the mods.

                          Hello Geomax this one is modified sorry (K157UD2. changed this chip on TL072.)
                          Do you advice the make this detector ?

                            Hi,
                            the schematic I upload was an old schematic with the Russian IC (K157UD2). I only asked KT315 whether this one was the original Pirate PI detector schematic. There are other schematics with the TL072 and NE555 timer available. Like this one...

                              Hi,
                              as a starter you can make a Pirate PI detector and learn from it first. It is easy to do. But if you want to make a good detector, I would recommend you to make either the Surf PI, MiniPulse Hammerhead or Baraccuda detector. These projects are very good documented on Geotech Forum and there are also video tutorials on Youtube available. Just google it.
