  • Is 1K ohm graphite shield too low?

Tested from end to end at the red arrows, 1K ohm.
First layer was 22k after curing for 4 hrs, so I added a 2nd layer, now after 24hrs its dropped from 1K8 to 1K.
Just wondering if this is too low before I put on the final fiberglass outer covering.

I was using Sherwood interior polyurethane wood varnish with graphite powder in a 1:1 ratio by volume.

Its the fastest coil Ive made so far, so I'd like to address any issues at this stage instead of tossing it and starting again.
22T twisted CAT 5E (0.5mm) stranded pair, 2.54 ohms with a 1.5 current limit resistor in series(under the heatshrink) and 354µH.

Its the fastest coil Ive made so far

again and again great delusion. fastest coil is
    1. basket one without epoxy filing
    2. spiral one without epoxy filing
    3. fastest coil can not be make from twisted CAT 5E.

Tested from end to end at the red arrows, 1K ohm

you measure STANDART OHMS BY ORDINARY TESTER. great delusion. you must use HIGH VOLTAGE GIGAOHM METER that used especial high voltage converter,
values of its power supply is 1000V....5000V....10 000V.

    DO YOU SEE THE DIFFERENCE?

we say not about Ohms here, about discharge electrostatic field charging capacity.
sorry, but your measuring has not deep sense.

After some time on Google, I came across Woody's recommendation for shielding resistance based on his mods to Minelab detectors.

The shielding can be measured with an ohm meter, just check the resistance of the shielding over 25mm to be between 40 ohms and 200 ohms, some coils can be higher, some lower, it is not too critical.
Make sure the shielding is connected to the outer conductive braid of the cable.

Mine is around 78 in some places and 160 in others and overall average of 98 ohms from end to end, so I called it done and added the final outer fiberglass wrap.

Carl, can you tell about ELECTROSTATIC FIELD to him? I see he don't want to understand. And my english is very poor to teach anyone without school basic physics knowledge (level Zero).

            Woody's recommendation

Who is Woody? Is he the professor of Department of Preston University? P.H.D.?

Maybe Carl could design a neck collar accessory for members. This neck collar would provide a much needed electric shock of several thousand volts (few microseconds) each time a member insults another member. This would likely keep some members in a more polite frame of neck(mind).
